Numark Kennel became
a registered name with the Field Dog Stud Book in 1971, for the purpose of
developing a line of English Pointers for our own use. We created a standard
guideline of requirements for our breeding stock and began our search. The
search encompassed trips across the United States, visiting English Pointer
kennels in Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois,
Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and Kansas. We also
attended several field trials, viewing such English Pointer Dogs as Riggin's
White Knight, Red Water Rex, Buckboard, Paladin's Royal Flush, Smart, Wahoo's
Trouble Doc, and Fiddler's Ace.
We imported an English Pointer from England in 1971, from the
Parkinson Kennel and would later make trips to England and Scotland in search
for dual type English pointers. Dual type Pointers are suitably bred to compete
very successfully in both field and show events. Robert Wehle, founder of Elhew
Kennels, made mention of his first English Pointer, Jem of Fern, in the book,
Wing and Shot. His father had purchased Jem of Fern while visiting the
Moors of Scotland. Jem of Fern was bred to Frank of Sunnylawn and this was the
beginning of the well known Elhew Pointers.

Numark Kennel's most successful breeding
came from the combination of the Pointers Addition's Go Boy (Mr. Pete Frierson's
Kennel), Fiddler (Mr. Dan Bonaguidi's Kennel), and the Elhew line of pointers (
Mr. Bob Wehle's Kennel). Using the bloodlines from these three English Pointer
kennels, we were able to produce a group of outstanding shooting dogs. These
dogs are well known today to local businessmen/hunters for their intense style
on point, bird finding ability, willingness to handle, and all around good
looks.
Numark Wide Glide, owned by attorney Chuck Trantham, was one
of the finest of these Pointers and has produced many excellent gun dogs. These
dogs have been hunted and evaluated from Arkansas to the Dakotas, Iowa, Kansas,
and Texas. They are admired by a large following and are in demand.
The two pictures directly below are of sisters from two
separate litters. You can see first hand that Numark Kennel's choice of
the Fiddler/Addition's Go Boy/ Elhew Cross has something extra to offer.
Numark Chelsea and Numark Hillary are also sisters to these identically bred
females and their pictures appear on our Dam's Page.

Numark Fidhew Kate is the dam to both of these
female Pointers. which are sisters from two separate litters.

Numark English Pointers are the result of out crossing
our Elhew Pointers to Champion Addition's Go Boy, and Champion
Fiddler/Gateway Matador. The resulting small group of fascinating English
Pointers have been line bred ever since, producing some of the finest bird
dogs in our region.
We have owned a line of Elhew Pointers, since 1965. We
discovered that Elhew Pointers usually display above average intelligence and
are more receptive to training than the norm. We enjoy their wonderful
disposition and their eagerness and willingness to please. Looking back, some
of our Pointers were Elhew Shagger, Elhew Linkabee, Elhew Knickabee, Elhew
Peggy Sue, Elhew Bobolink's Belle, Elhew Colt, Elhew Hickock, Elhew Sky Raider,
Elhew Cover Girl, Elhew Sea Gazer, Elhew Rising Sun, and the list goes on.
We line bred our Elhew pointers. The puppies produced by
breeding Elhew to Elhew do not show the desire, quickness, style, and toughness,
as the puppies which resulted from matings to the Addition's Go Boy, Fiddler,
and Elhew outcrossed dogs. I believe Mr. Wehle out crossed his Elhew line on
occasion for the same reason that we do, to get that extra vigor and vitality
that hybrids usually display. Look at the results from Mr. Wehle out crossing
his Pointers to Guard Rail, Dunn's Fearless Bud, and Hook's Bounty Hunter. His
best English Pointers were produced by out crossing.
Dr. Alvin Nitchman was another very successful breeder. He
used the Elhew line and would outcross his English Pointers, producing a large
number of shooting dog champions. Two of the most notable were Champion Smart
and Champion Pork Roll.
Numark Kennel is a small kennel, that has benefited from
well-known kennels by using some of their finest English Pointer stud dogs in
our breeding program . We appreciate those who have allowed us to benefit
through the use of their dogs.
We are thankful to have had a part in producing the 2002
National Champion: Miller's True Spirit, and the 2003 National Champion: Texas
Trail Rider. Numark Megan (the mother of Miller's True Spirit) and Hop's Miss
Oklahoma (the mother of Texas Trail Rider) were whelped at Numark Kennel.
Numark Kennel is located on 150 acres near the small town of
Exeter, in Southwest Missouri. We invite you to visit us. Call first, so we can
be here to meet you and share a cup of coffee or tea.
